Wizardy In Wood 2012 Exhibition
October 16 – 20, 2012 – Carpenters Hall, London

The Worshipful Company of Turners (WCOT) of London is holding an exhibition as a follow-on to two previous highly acclaimed Wizardry in Wood Exhibitions in 2004 and 2008. The event promotes the highest standards of excellence of craftsmanship in wood turning against a historical context. It acts as a showcase for the WCOT Register of Professional Turners with 20 stands (including members Paul Coker, Stuart King, Dennis Keeling and Stuart Mortimer) as well as stands from the Association of Woodturners of Great Britain, the Association of Pole Lathe Turners and of course the Society of Ornamental Turners. The historical aspect is covered firstly by what is believed to be the first public display from the Science Museum’s Holtzapffel Collection which is without doubt the finest collection of ornamentally turned ivory and wooden artefacts in the UK. Secondly there is a display of turned work from the “Mary Rose” which sank in 1545 but whose treasures are in pristine condition. Even earlier will be a montage of the history of medieval turning in the City of London. There will also be a special display of the work of SOT late member, Theo Fabergé. The presence of representative examples from such prestigious and historic sources serve as a yardstick by which visitors can assess the skills and scope of today’s best turners. Together they probably represent the finest display of turning in Europe if not the world. The event is immediately preceded by turning competitions and the entries will also be on display. The exhibition will be held at the magnificent Carpenters Hall in the City of London. More details at www.WizardryinWood.com
